JLPT N3 Grammar

tsuide ni — while ~ (taking the opportunity to do something extra)

Meaning / 意味

〜ついでに means doing something extra while you are already doing your main task, because it is a good opportunity. The first part is the main purpose, and the second part is the extra thing.

How to form / 接続

While I was going to return books to the library, I did some shopping at the supermarket.

Notes /

〜ながら means doing two actions at the same time (歩きながら話す). 〜ついでに means doing an extra action because you are already out doing the main one; the two actions don't have to happen at the same moment.
