JLPT N3 Grammar
〜せいで/〜おかげで
sei de / okage de — because of (bad result) / thanks to (good result)
~탓에 / ~덕분에
Meaning / 意味
Both give a cause. 〜せいで is used when the result is bad and you blame the cause. 〜おかげで is used when the result is good and you feel thankful.
둘 다 원인을 나타냅니다. 「〜せいで」는 결과가 나쁠 때 원인을 탓하는 표현이고, 「〜おかげで」는 결과가 좋을 때 감사하는 마음을 담은 표현입니다.

Notes / ポイント
Using おかげで with a bad result sounds sarcastic: あなたのおかげで遅れた (thanks a lot, you made me late).
나쁜 결과에 「おかげで」를 쓰면 비꼬는 말이 됩니다: 「あなたのおかげで遅れた」(덕분에 늦었네).
おかげさまで is a polite set phrase: "Thanks to you (and everyone), things are fine."
「おかげさまで」는 '덕분에 잘 지내고 있습니다'라는 정중한 인사말입니다.
〜せいで/〜おかげで vs 〜ために/〜ので
〜ので and 〜ために simply state a reason without blame or thanks. せいで and おかげで add the speaker's feelings.
「〜ので」, 「〜ために」는 탓하거나 감사하는 마음 없이 이유만 말합니다. 「せいで」, 「おかげで」에는 말하는 사람의 감정이 들어갑니다.
