JLPT N4 Grammar
made / made ni — until ~ / by ~ (deadline)
Meaning / 意味
Both translate as "until" or "by" in English, but they are used differently. 〜まで marks the end of an action or state that continues up to that time. 〜までに marks a deadline: the action happens once, at some point before that time.

Notes /
A simple test: if the action continues the whole time (wait, work, sleep), use まで. If it happens once (return, submit, arrive), use までに.
まで also marks places: 駅まで歩く (walk to the station).
The same idea applies: あいだ is for something continuing the whole time, and あいだに is for something that happens once within that time.
